15 people (students and their families combined) attended the Broadway Tour Production of The Sound of Music on October 17th. What fun! The field trip was so much fun, we may consider another show in 2000! Now, tell Mrs. McIntyre what looks interesting for winter and spring of 2000. See Field Trips.
Reminder: Studio Class is coming up Friday October 15th. Please note the time change from prior years: Now we meet from 5:00pm-6:00pm.
Congratulations to 7 students who plan to participate
in IMTA's Achievement in Music Festival at Butler University on November
20th. They are: Wes, Daniel, Laura, Lauren Z., Betsy, Hollie, and
Lauren B. Go for it!!
What's New? for Teachers
I have experienced an epiphany at the recent Indiana Music
Teachers Association state convention in Terre Haute. I have struggled
for years at a clear way to play with as much mobility and freedom without
pain. A majority of pianists struggle with hand problems. I
have discovered the Alexander Technique and the approach of world class
pianist, Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink to be of tremendous help. Her video,
"Freeing the Caged Bird" is influencing artists and teaching throughout
the world.
See: Freeing
the Caged Bird and also Alexander
Technique The Complete Guide to the Alexander Technique for
a new way to make music. Dr. Lister-Sink was kind enough to listen
and watch me play in a separate session. I'm grateful to her for
her generosity of skill, experience, kindness, and knowledge. The Alexander
Technician was also immensely skilled, kind, and helpful. He is Dale
Beaver from Ohio. I bought an amazing book from Dale found at the following
web site: Andover Press Home
. Happy playing!
