Welcome New Students

Welcome to Devon and Nick, who joins are studio this week. We are so glad to have you join us!

MAY STUDIO CLASS: McIntyre Master Class Invitational!

Our own studio is sponsoring a private master class, just for our students, this May.

What is a masterclass?

Definition:

An invitational music gathering where highly talented students play for a master musician, and receive a 'mini' lesson in front of each other. Sometimes other teachers are present as observers, so they, too, can learn. The session often takes place in a recital hall.

More Studio Class Information...

Our May Studio Class/Masterclass will culminate our 2005-2006 school year. Participation is entirely optional; there is a $25 participation fee. Collected fees will pay for rental of the recital hall (Mungar Hall at the new Meridian Music), and the stipend for our guest concert artist. We bring our best playing, finest preparation, eagerness to learn. I bring my best teaching. It is understood that every student is at a unique place in 'their musical journey'. Our special guest this year is Dr. William Hughes. He is a dear colleague and very respected musician. I consider him a valued mentor as I have returned to the piano following an injury. He is a student of "Alexander Technique", has a working knowledge of how the body works as it makes music at the piano, and kind and gentle spirit. He is an extraordinary pianist, holds a tenure track, full-professorship post at Indiana State University, where he serves as department piano chair. Read Dr. Hughes' professional profile.

Lauren B. Selected as Pianist in Masterclass

Lauren B. was selected to participate in a guest master class sponsored by the Indiana Piano Teachers Guild last month. She played the first movement of Kabalevsky's Sonatina for concert pianist Kate Boyd. Professor Boyd has just accepted an appointment to a tenure track professorship post at Butler University.

Private Summer Lessons With Mrs. McIntyre? See below...

Summer Piano Lessons (McIntyre Home)

First, the business stuff...

Summer Lessons are scheduled 'by appointment'. Just email Mrs. McIntyre or phone her cell phone (502-1273) to schedule a time. If you want to pay as you go, lessons are $50 ea. If you wish to pay in advance for 4 one-hour lessons to schedule some time during the summer(not necessarily 4 weeks in a row), you can purchase the group of four at the reduced rate of $150.

Half-hour lessons for beginners are $25 each.

Now, for the fun... I just chatted with the manager of the McDonalds in Broad Ripple. This summer we have been invited to play their grand piano (yes! at McDonalds!). They have a very nice grand on a small stage in the middle of the restaurant. If you wish to participate in this summer activity, let me know. You can dress casually, and bring your own groupies, sip on shakes and eat in between all the applause! Leave it to Broad Ripple to have a McDonalds with a jazz theme, complete with little fireplace and couches in the corner (a la Starbucks).

Fall 2006 - Tuition Change | Registration Info

REGISTRATION: Are you planning to return to piano lessons in August? Registration fee to reserve a place on the schedule is due on or before May 5, 2006. The registration fee is $50 per student. If I do not receive a registration fee by then, I will assume they will not return and I'll offer that space to another student.

MONTHLY TUITION: To new students, here is the breakdown of our tuition policy:

Tuition has remained the same for at least 2 years, despite cost of living increases. The tuition fee beginning in August 2006 is $180 monthly (difference of $12) from August through April. In the exception of a couple beginners, two half-hour slots are shared by siblings, which allows for the hourly discount.

Single, one-hour, by appointment lessons for adult students are $50 per hour.

Want a break-down of what's due when? Go to: Spring Announcements. This is the digital copy of the handout given to you at your lesson the week of April 24, 2006.

About Our Web Site:Piano Studio of Lola McIntyre

Did you know our studio web site is one of the earliest web presence private piano studio web site ever (first uploaded in the late 1990's). We have received over 70,000 hits from all over the world in the past year.

Recital Recordings

Everyone will be receiving a Compact Disk audio recording AND (I am hoping!) a DVD movie of the recital (one copy of each to each family). You may copy these at will for your own family members, as long as you do not charge for them. Since Mrs. McIntyre is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association, all copyrights have been covered. The cost of the recordings were included in your recital fee. Joe (of Crossroads Sound) told me they are ready and I should receive them in the next week or two. As soon as I get them, I'll give you one of each at your lesson.

I am proud of EACH ONE of my students!
