Spring Recital
Our Spring Recital is Saturday March 11, 2006 at 2:30 pm. INVITE FRIENDS AND FAMILY! The recital should last about an hour with cookies and punch directly following. Recital fee is $50 per student, payable with March remits. We are so grateful to UIndy to use their primere recital hall, the Ruth Lilly Hall in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center at 1400 E. Hanna Ave in Indianapolis. Here's a little info about the hall: University of Indianapolis Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center.
Go to SPRING RECITAL for more details about the recital.
May Studio Class
We have one more Studio Class this school year, which is set for Friday May 12, 2005 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. We close the year with our special McIntyre Masterclass Invitational. A piano Master Class is when student has a mini-lesson with a notable concert artist in front of other students, who also have a turn doing the same thing. Our final master class in May is with Dr. William Hughes, Professor of Piano and Piano Department Chair from Indiana State University. Dr. Hughes is as kind as he is talented. all students are invited to participate, but not required to do so. We'll decide together what piece you will play for him. The May 12 Studio Class will NOT take place at my home, but instead, Munger Hall, inside Meridian Music. There is a $25 participation fee for pianists who play for Dr. Hughe, payable with April remits. This will help cover the recital hall rental and his fee.
May Studio Class will mark the end of piano lessons for this school year. Anyone who would like to continue from mid May through mid August, call Mrs. McIntyre to set up a different time (or confirm the same). Lessons following May Studio Class and througout the summer will be $50 per hour ($30 for each half hour lesson), payable each lesson. Summer lessons are by appointment, and are entirely optional. Weekly lessons resume in mid-August.
Summer Camps
Now is the time to think about summer camp experiences. Summer is a great time to expand our music experiences, either by playing music of our choice on our own at home, or scheduling summer lessons with Mrs. McIntyre, or attending a camp. There are many choices in regard to camps. Elementary students can look into Butler Univerisity and U of I's day camps. Junior High and High Schoolers who want a real 'camp' experience in the arts should consider Interlochen Arts Camp or Blue Lake. E-mail Sarah L. for personal recommendations.
For those interested in Jazz and increasing improvisational skills, consider Harry Miedema's Circle City Jazz Camps. Mr. Miedema has a gold record hanging on his wall in his studio at U of I - earned while touring for a number years with the O'Jays. This camp has low student/teacher ratio, it is taught by great jazz pedagogues, and it is close to home. I highly recommend this camp for four reasons: 1) we better connect with classical compositions, and 2) we learn to think on our feet with improved keyboard skills, and 3) increase our theory skills, and 4) it's fun! To learn more about Mr. Miedema, read his Bio: About Mr. Miedema, Artistic Director of Circle City Jazz Camps.
I've created a web page about summer music camps, found at: Summer Camps. This time of year it receives record numbers of hits from all over the globe!
Professor McIntyre Participates in i2 Symposium
Mrs. McIntyre was invited to represent University of Indianapolis in an Internet 2 Symposium March 3 and 4. Interet 2 is a parallel universe to the World Wide Web reserved for research purposes. (If the WWW is a gravel road, Internet 2 is the Autobahn.) One of 9 music technology leaders in Indiana higher education, McIntyre will serve as a partipant in launching simulcasts of music events, in real time, between partipants in different parts of the globe. Hard data will be gathered, and initial projects may evolve into important research, in which the outcomes are anticipated to be far-reaching.
