What's New? February 2005

Piano Studio of Lola McIntyre

Rehearsal Schedule - Saturday Feb. 12 at CDFAC/ U of I

President's Day

Monday February 21st is President's Day. If you have a Monday lesson, and can NOT attend that day, let me know as soon as possible. I plan on teaching that day, unless I hear from you.

Studio Class

Studio Class is this Friday from 4:45 (earlier than usual) to 6:00 pm at my house. Bring your music. You'll be playing your solo and your ensemble(s). We hit the ground running because there is a lot of repertoire to go through. All solos should be memorized. We'll figure out page turning issues and other details as we go. We'll begin right at 4:45, so if you are late, come in quietly, slip your shoes off (leave on carpet), add your coat to the others (family room couch), and come to the living room with your music. If you are playing as someone comes in, this is great practice for a performance...ignore them if you can... and keep going:-). We wiill not bow before and after each number - just hop up and play. (We'll cover the bow and stage deportment at our actual rehearsal in the hall.) At Studio Class, we'll do all ensembles first, then go to solos. We'll end right at 6:00.

Spring Recital

Spring Recital is Saturday March 5 at 2:00 pm at the University of Indianapolis. Clear your work and sports schedules for that afternoon's piano recital. Details: Spring Recital 2005

We are so fortunate to have the privilege to perform in this hall - it is a venue of choice within the midwest. The setting is intimate, the pian12 are outstanding, and acoustics are amazing. It is a destination hall for notable world class-class musicians. The important thing to note is: we have reserved it as a private party. In other words, I have not advertised our performance to the general public, so you may have the choice to invite your own friends and family. So, eventhough the hall and opportunity are special, keep in mind we are playing for all those who really care and love us regardless of an oopsy or two:-)

Make-up Lessons/New Schedule Changes

If you can not make a lesson, and need to switch lesson times with another student, the schudle has changed somewhat. Here's the link to the updated Lesson Schedule page: Schedule

Rehearsals

SIGN UP for a TIME, NOW. E-mail me with your request: lmcintyre@indy.rr.com. See the table below for choices.

We prepare for recital in two ways: Studio Class (see above), and the actual rehearsal. Our rehearsal in Ruth Lilly Hall (at U of I's Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center), is 3 weeks before the performance - a hidden blessing. This gives us time to practice on any little snags we experience at the rehearsal. Here's the plan:

Recital Fee

Recital Fee covers the rehearsal time, the hall usage, my time, and a professional audio recording on CD of the entire performance. Recital Fee is $40 per student. I am checking with the hall manager and recording engineer if we might also have them do a video recording also. I'll let you know.

New Students - Welcome!

We welcome Skylar to our studio! Skylar is beginning piano this month, and he is in the 5th grade. Welcome Skylar! Another boy, Croix, who is 4 years old, will be coming for a 'sample lesson' next week. My son Alex is so excited to have more boys in our studio!

I give a free sample lesson to any prospective student. If you have a friend who may be interested but isn't sure, the free sample lesson is a good introduction. Also, half-hour lessons are available to start.

Summer Lessons

Summer Lessons will be $25 each for a half hour lesson and $45 each for an hour lesson, available by appointment at our mutual convenience.

Summer Music Technology Camp (Grades 5 - 12)

I'm thinking of offering a little music technology exploration session this summer for anyone interested. This would give students to explore sequencing at the Roland, on the computer, Apple's Garage Band, iPod possibilities, and even some multi-media fun by mixing movies with music. Who's interested? Day or evening? One day, three days, or a week? Cost? I am collecting ideas, response and input from students and parents!

Summer String Chamber Music For Middle School Musicians

Any one play a stringed instrument and is going into 7th or 8th grade next year? I'm gathering names and will contact all interested for a fun reading session of easy chamber music for 2,3,4, or 5 players. Loose format - with emphasis on FUN and Discovery. We'll gather this summer at private homes and include social time. Spread the word!
