What's New? August 2006

Piano Studio of Lola McIntyre

Celebrating 30 Years This Year!

Welcome back everyone! Parents, please read this together with your children. It will help put them in the loop, so nothing catches them by surprise. Some students (more than one!) last year mentioned mom handled the calendar and they do not know even when a scheduled routine dentist appointment is to happen. This helped me to re-evaluate 'the family calendar' with our sons. One suggestion is to ask them to write studio dates in their school assignment notebooks as well as the family calendar. Lesson times, Studio Class dates, AIM FESTIVAL, and Spring Recital can be logged as you read this edition of What's New? August 2006 together. If students are dragging their feet (or fingers in this case) in meeting a performance date, they are often surprised when I put the time frame into number of lessons remaining. Suddenly 10 days only means one more lesson before the big performance! I thought logging dates in their own calendars may help them organize their time and keep their eyes fixed on gaols while learning delayed gratification.

Weekly Lesson Schedule is finished. If you have a conflict or concern contact me. Occassionaly there is a holiday which affects the weekly lesson schedule. I have figured 32 lessons for every student, regardless whether they meet on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.

Consult the NO LESSON Date Schedule and mark your calendars. This helps avoid putting us all into a tailspin when those dates sneak up on us. I have consulted the civic calendar and the the Carmel-Clay calendar. It also includes Halloween for practical reasons.

Studio Classes for the entire year is completed so you can add them to your familly calendars.

Recital is at Meridian Music this year. UINDY is interviewing for a new hall manager, and it is unlikely we would get Ruth Lily Hall for our recital. In the interest of planning, I booked a time at our own Carmel located, Munger Hall inside Meridian Music (across from Meijer on Old Meridian). Eventhough expenses are greater, recital fees will remain the same. Thank you to many of you who were able to respond to the poll. 80% requested the March 23 date, since that wraps up their biggest performance before spring break. 10 voted.

Studio Policies are always good to review, especially if you are new to the studio within the last year or two. Included in the policies the make-up/cancellation policy.

Tuition can be paid by the month or by the semester this year. Students, this is an important investment to your parents. To put it in plain terms, the tuition could pay for a weekend in Disney World or buy your family a new car... SO practice an hour each day. You'll see the benefits within a few weeks!

Remits Calendar has been updated for your convenience. This lists the lesson date on which a monthly remit is due. Some families find it easier to simply mail it on the first, so it's early. Late remits directly affect our family budget. Please allow me to thank you in advance for your consideration.

AIM FESTIVAL 2006 The AIM fest applications have arrived! We'll map out your next two month goals at your first lesson. Mark your calendars for Saturday November 18th. Two hour time slots range from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Summer Music Campers this year are Sarah L. (Chamber Music Institute at the Univ. of Indpls. - Piano), Zach G. (Cleveland Institute of Music - Composition), and Alex Mc (Interlochen Arts Camp - Cello). [Did I miss anyone?]These three young musicians have great experiences to share with us about particiapting at some very prestigious camps! Sarah worked with accomplished musicians who are members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Zach explored composition at one of the countries most prestigous conservatories, and Alex worked with conductors, teachers, and students from around the world. Perhaps they can share some things with us at our first studio class!

Summer music camp is HIGHLY recommended to all students. In my opinion, it is the best use of summer time. Students always return to our studio energized having worked with other musicians. They hear music of a high musical standard and meet friends with the same interests from all over the globe. Our studio summer camp page received thousands of hits this year! There are local day camps for younger students in the area, too!
